Message from the Interim Pastor
On March 15, Session made the difficult decision to look beyond personal desires for the good of the larger community and suspend all church activities due to the coronavirus effective immediately through the end of March. This includes Sunday worship services, Sunday School, women’s meetings and mid-week Lenten services at John Knox Presbyterian Church. As you know, the situation changes quickly and things are in flux.
I plan on posting sermons each week and trying to update through whatever time on our website and Facebook. Hospitals and nursing homes are not allowing visitors so I will be trying to reach out and pray with the ill and others in need via phone or video-conferencing. Some congregations will be live-streaming from their church and you may be able to access some of their worship services. If you need to talk, my number is (816)341-6095. My personal email (which is checked most often) is firstname.lastname@example.org. I may be able to gather some of you virtually through invitations from Zoom, Google Hangout, or FaceTime.
Many have already obtained our Lenten devotionals so please use those as well. This is a time when we need folks to pray for so many affected in various ways. One church I visited a few years ago had all of their members setting alarms on their phones to remind them to pray at 8p.m. They knew that others in their church were also doing so. I invite you to consider that. While we may not be face-to-face, we are still holding together knowing that God goes with us through whatever happens in life. Exercise, meditation, Spiritual disciplines, and mindfulness may also help reduce anxiety and the stress some will experience.
Kim is planning to be in the office but the schedule may have disruptions. Steve plans to continue working to make sure the church is clean. We are trying to adapt as needed. Know that we all keep you in our prayers and we look forward to reuniting as soon as possible.
Grace and peace be with you all!
Kathryn Bates, Interim Pastor
